What are Retainers?
Retainers are fixed or removable
appliances worn after the braces are
removed. A removable retainer attaches
to your upper and/or lower teeth and
holds them in their finished positions.
When/How often do I need to wear my
Retainers?
Wear your retainers full time, until
Dr. Taylor instructs otherwise.
Take your retainers out when eating.
Taking care of your Retainers
When your retainers are not in your
mouth, always put them in their case.
Most retainers are lost at school during
lunch or at restaurants. You may
also be surprised to learn that pets
like to chew on them.
NEVER WRAP YOUR RETAINER IN A NAPKIN !!!
Clean retainers thoroughly once a day
with a toothbrush and toothpaste using
warm water. Brushing
retainers removes the plaque, and
eliminates odors.
Efferdent or other orthodontic appliance
cleaners can be used, but do not take
the place of brushing.
Retainers are breakable, so treat them
with care. If your retainers are lost or
broken please call us immediately.
Keep retainers away from hot water, hot
car dashboards, the washing machine and
keep them out of your pockets.
If you have any questions or concerns
about your retainers, or your retainers
need adjusting, please do not hesitate
to call us. Do not try to
adjust them yourself.
Always bring your retainers to your
appointments.
